NH NEVI Webinar

On September 11th, 2023, the NHDOT held a webinar on NEVI – National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure NH. Discussed was phase 1 RFP (request for proposal) 9/11/23

The full 28 slide presentation is here: https://www.dot.nh.gov/sites/g/files/ehbemt811/files/inline-documents/pre-release-rfp-presentation-230911.pdf

TLDR;

CCS required by Federal Specs, NH will include NACS in their final RFP

Only 4 stations will be funded, so if Tesla installs/upgrades a 12 station site, only 4 will be federally funded. Funding may be spent on many aspects of the job – see slide 18

NH has >$17M to spend over 5 years

Initial RFP will be for 10-13 sites located every 50 miles and not more than a mile from the highway.

Sites must meet ADA requirements

Charging of 150 kW is a minimum

Some states are limiting each supplier as to the number of sites they may open. This would allow competition for $/kWh. NH does not yet have a limit.

Award of the bid is based on 30% cost of install and 70% on technical criteria, see slide 9.

Final award will be determined by April 2024.

Price Cuts and EV Tax Credit

Great news for 2023. Tesla has cut prices on all models and there is an EV Tax Credit added on top. This means that the Model Y with the tax credit, starts at $45,490 and the Model 3 starts at $36,490. According to Kelly Blue Book , the average new car sells for $48,681. Photo below from the Not A Tesla App blog. For details on which new and used cars qualify for the tax credit, see Tesla's Website . Note: This credit amount applies to deliveries now and may change during March 2023, at which point credit amounts may be reduced.

Vermont Buy Back Program

Cash for Clunkers is back! For upgrading a 10+year old car. At least in Vermont. According to an article in VTDigger, Vermont has a "Replace your Ride" program that gives you $3000 for old fossil fuel vehicles. There are other state and utility incentives for low to middle income earners too. If you live in VT or have friends there, let them know. From the site:

25% off the sale price of a used high-efficiency car, up to $5,000, through MileageSmart.

State incentives, which can reduce the purchase price of an electric vehicle by as much as $4,000 for individuals who make 50,000 or less, and up to $2,500 for those who make between $50,000 and $100,000.

Income-based incentives offered by electric utilities. Green Mountain Power, for example, offers up to $2,500 to those who make the switch, and some programs offer a free charger.

Public EV Charging Resource

Are you a municipality, restaurant, rental or condo property owner and are wondering about the costs of EV charging? Tesla offers destination chargers that can now allow business owners to charge for electricity.

Here is a link to a document is designed to help you understand the costs associated with installing, operating, and maintaining electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), also known as electric vehicle “charging stations.” It provides an overview of the equipment and processes needed to install EVSE and offers representative examples of cost ranges. The information presented is based on data collected from various studies around the country, as well as input from EVSE owners, manufacturers, installers, and utilities.

At the annual shareholders meeting at Giga Texas, Elon announced the second AI day will take place on Sept 30th, 2022. Mark your calendars. We'll be sure to hear more about FSD Beta and more. He subsequently confirmed that there will be a demo of Optimus Subprime, the Tesla Bot. The Tesla Bot is designed to do repetitive tasks in uncomfortable environments in place of humans. Elon promised many new updates for Tesla's efforts in Artificial Intelligence. Tesla is actively recruiting for AI scientists, chip and software experts to join their team.

Tesla Collision Center coming to Boston

It appears a new Tesla Collision Center facility is coming to Boston in the coming year. A permit was found recently showing construction intended for an automobile garage with repair bays/lifts, spray booths and accessory parts storage and offices. The address of the facility is 48 Industrial Drive, Hyde Park, MA 02136. This location is part of a multi-phase redevelopment of a former MBTA rail yard.

This should be great news for area owners that find themselves in need of body work. In addition to Tesla doing their own work, I would assume the facility could potentially be leveraged as a parts depot for area certified Tesla autobody shops to improve parts access.

Charging in multi unit dwellings

Heard about this company on the Ride The Lightning podcast. One thing that prevents multi unit property owners from deploying EV charging is the issue of who will pay for the electricity. Orange Charger offer an easy to install solution for apartment owners to offer EV charging to their tenants. Tenants usage can be tracked and charged to their accounts. If you are a tenant, landlord or involved in multi unit dwellings, check out their website: https://www.orangecharger.com/

I have to keep a bucket, washer/squeegee in my garage, as I no longer stop at gas stations.
If I want my Windows clean, gotta do it at home.

I am very used to keeping a small garbage bag in my car, hanging off the shifter in between the front seats.
My Tesla Model Y does not have a shifter, and garbage ends up on the passenger’s floor.

Well, i solved problem # 2.
Found these on Amazon, and it states that they fit Model 3 & Model Y.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0946CNXWJ/

Got mine in, and they do the job of holding a garbage bag beautifully!

See me at the TOCENE drives, & ask to see if/how they fit on an S or X.

Laps for Charity Events - why attend?

Well first off....Its' supporting charities.
NHMS supports a variety of children's charities.

This is a great event at the NASCAR track, and you bring AND drive your car on the track. Everyone who has gone loves it!

There are two types of courses that are offered:
Oval Course
Road Course
Link to PDF map of the two courses.

Paul Braren, one of our members, is the ultimate documenter.
He captured quite a few moments of the TOCENE visit to the event held at the NHMS (New Hampshire Motor Speedway), where we are guests as it is not OUR event.
Check out his post for our Sept 12 2021 event.

1000 mile drive - what's it like?

So, Marques Brownlee, whom I found on YouTube & Twitter, did another "test drive" to see how the charging experience was on a road trip.

Doing a 1,000 mile loop from NYC area, to Lake Placid, to Niagara Falls, to Scranton PA, back to NYC starting point.
This is the link to the 19-minute YouTube Video here.

A pretty cool take, with some expected, and some unexpected results.

1 x Gas Car - Audi Q5
1 x Tesla Model S (refresh)
1 x Ford Mach-E

TONE - Our Club Has Been Given a Name!!!!

TONE
Tesla Owners Club of New England

Working with Tesla, they provided us an official club name.
Even though we are on a probationary period at this time (all clubs go through this probationary period), with some luck, folks will be able to find this site sometime in October 2021.

No worries...we can still hold events in the meantime (actually, that's a requirement), so we continue to use evite.com for now....

Once we have get through probation, the site can go live, be shared with our ever growing list, and we can accept membership dues and members here on the site!

This will be a fun year, with many new friends.
Thank you all for being part of this club!!!

Charger Chat - July 27

OK, so technically NOT a charger chat (as there is no charger)….
Link to the event right here....

Still, this is so cool!!!
Being held at the Fox Creek Taven, Ipswich, MA

The police chief, Chief Nikas, of Ipswich, MA, has just recently gotten the first Tesla for the police force in Ipswich!
AND he wants to engage with the community, answer our questions, and perhaps even turn the lights/flashers on for us (my own selfish wish), so we can see how that looks on a Tesla.

I’m sure there are lots of questions that other people will have.

During the summer, it is tough for the Chief of Police to carve out time, so this is a mid-day event, mid-week, in July.

Perhaps Chief Nikas can be persuaded to hold another event on a weekend once the busy season (summer) is over???

NOTE:
We are visitors here...This location was picked by the Chief Nikas for a few reasons....good size parking lot, good food, and restrooms (if needed).
We will have to "wing it", but let us try to all stay on one side of the parking lot, and keep the front spaces free for restarant customers....It may be off normal "lunch" hours, but let's not assume we are the only ones who will be there that day....
